3plantaze

A Japenese poplar, which is the favourite name of this fast growing woody species, has an origin in crossbreeding of Populus  nigra and Populus Maximowiczii in Japan since 1880. It benefits in the stationery industry. It extended from Japan to Europe where we grow it for energy and industrial purposes on sprout plantations since sixties.

The most popular clone of this fast growing woody species is J-105 and this one is grown in our firm Vypěstuj si les. The right name of this clone is Max-4. It is a female dioecious plant. We spread it with cutting them from mothery growths. Their maturity is between 8th and 10th year of growing. It is not possible to spread it with seeds because of unisexuality of plantations and a short period of rotation (only from 2 to 6 years). A theoratical possibility of self – fertilization can appear as an abnormality and it is  discussed among the scientists. An annual growth is from 2.5 to 4.5 metres depending on climatic and soil conditions (circumstances). It makes from 10 to 20 tons of biomass on every  hectar per year. It even gets on with a short flood and a bimonthly period of drought. The best yields are up to the altitude of 650 metres above sea level. The trunk grows around after the each harvest and so the continuity of growing is guaranted. The plantations of poplars have a lifetime around 20 or 25 years if they are used effectively. The old stumps with a horizontal  root can be liquidated with the digging of a rotovator and picking. A chemical way is also possible. It is suitable let the field rest for a year before you set it again. In this period it is good  to use some crops appropriate for ploughing because we can renew nutrients to the soil .

We gather the crops either by the help of a cutter for wood chips after 2 years or for firewood after 5 years.  The exploitation is made in winter, during the period of vegetation rest. The wood of the Japenese poplar can be used in many branches – the building and the stationery industry, the toy production or in the lathe – turning. Thanks to its low price it is used also in foreign countries. The most often purpose of its production is an economically cheap fuel – in the forms of wood chips, round cut trunks, granules or small briquets. The heating power of the wood is comparable to the fuel efficiency of the brown (soft) coal – it varies from 4.3 to 4.5 kWh, 14.5 MJ on 1 kilogram of the wood when the humidity is 20 percents. The yield for five years is above 300 prm (the average meter of wood) from 1 ha. Only a half – hectar plantation is enough to heating of a family house (including water heating). The next advantage of this tree is its role as a wind barrier, an anti noise screen of trees because the high of trunks is around  15 metres during 5 years. It has a big role also in recultivation of ploughland.

The huge advantages of these fast growing trees are their lightness, high rooting, durability, resistance and regenerative capacity. They are the reasons the Japenese poplars are the best among the fast growing woody species.
